Eddy current testing is a non-destructive way to determine the remaining life of condenser and evaporator tubes in air-conditioning heat exchangers.
The technique detects corrosion, pitting, cracks, erosion and other changes on both the inside and outside surfaces of each tube. Results are analysed, and discontinuities are categorised and reported by defect type and depth.
This gives management an accurate assessment of the unit's condition and remaining useful life. Damaged tubes can then be plugged before they fail, avoiding costly condenser tube leaks and forced outages.
