A direct expansion (DX) air-conditioning system uses refrigerant expansion and compression to cool the supply air to an occupied space directly.
Because the evaporator is in direct contact with the supply air, a DX system cools the air delivered to the building directly. The condensed liquid refrigerant flows through a thermal expansion device, which controls the flow and pressure of refrigerant back into the evaporator.
