A screw compressor is a positive-displacement compressor that uses two meshing helical screws, called rotors, to compress gas.
Compression in a rotary screw is a continuous sweeping motion. In an oil-flooded rotary-screw compressor, lubricating oil bridges the space between the rotors, so there is very little of the pulsation or surging of flow that occurs with piston compressors.
